5th Singapore National Wushu Display

Singapore National Wushu Display is the large wushu festival organized each two years by Singapore governement together with Singapore National Wushu Federation. The organizers try to invite the best teams to perform there. Usually, the teams from China and other Asian coutries, strong in wushu, are invited. This year, the guests included the chinese teams from Shenzhen, Shaolin, teams from Hongkong and Myanmar. Mr. Zhang Yue Ning, the author of the contemporary compulsory routines for the straightsword and spear, has also participated in the display.

But for the 5th National Wushu Display, the organizing committee also decided to invite the european team having the world quality wushu technics. Their choice was the team of St-Petersburg Wushu Federation, headed by Mrs. Eleonora Volokontseva. They've sent the official invitation a year before the event.

When our team has arrived to Singapore, the great attention was immediately paid to them. Our athletes, Irina Mazepa and Ekaterina Iordanidi, were dominating on posters, TV promotional trailers and press publications.

About 8,000 spectators came to Singapore Indoor Stadium on Sunday, September 28, to enjoy the show. In his welcome speech, Mr. Alex Chan, Chairman of Singapore Sports Council, said: "This biennal event showcases a pool of talented international performers from Russia, Myanmar, China and Hong Kong. These top-class athletes include Russia's Irina Mazepa and Ekaterina Iordanidi, multiple champions of Shanghai International Wushu Tournament and Beijing International Wushu Tournament 2002". The storm of applause met Irina and Ekaterina performing spear, cudgel, double sword, double broadsword and fighting set.

During the official farewell party, Mrs. Eleonora Volokontseva received a lot of compliments and congratulations from famous Wushu experts and teachers that could't believe that it was not a Chinese master training the team, but Mrs. Eleonora herself.

Mrs. Eleonora Volokontseva and the president of Singapore National Wushu Federation, Mr. Tang Guan Seng have exchanged the official gifts and expressed the wishes of further cooperation. "From our part, I'd like to thank very much Singapore National Wushu Federation for the exciting reception and the great attention paid to our team, to me personally, and to our achievements in wushu", - Mrs. Eleonora said.
